Camp Dry Gulch, Oklahoma

The Red Bus

Winners of the Toilet Paper Race

Beloved and I had the upstairs apartment on the right. It boasted 2 queen size beds, a mini-kitchen, a great bath and tons of air conditioning. Below us was a girls dormitory.

After graduation destruction came the summer camping trips - 3 in a row! Camp Dry Gulch was with the church. 1st thru 6th grades. This was a wonderful time of fun with all the children that I have been privileged to teach Sunday school and children's church for the last year.

This was by far the poshest of the camps I got to visit this summer. Also, the farthest with a 5 hour bus trip. We took 3 buses for a total of 112 kids and 13 adults. Camp Dry Gulch is a wonderful old western town. They used to film the Gospel Bill show and related movies here. The sets are gone, but the wild west lives on. By the way, you can still catch the Gospel Bill show on TBN on Saturday mornings or on the internet at www.smileofachildtv.org .

Other times of the year, they have marriage retreats, a Christmas train, and spring/fall retreats. They also have a teen camp. In the summer alone 10,000 kids come through - incredible isn't it. 2 sessions a week, 550 kids per session and there was construction while we there. Think they might grow?

It rained a little each day we were there but not enough to really disrupt things, but enough to keep the temperatures in check. The waterfront was shut down due to high waters. The docks were under water. Otherwise, we could have been on the blob, the wave runner, the banana boat and the wet willie. All was not lost on the water side though - there was a pool with 4 slides.

The adults I work and worship with are wonderful people and so much fun. We had water gun fights in the street at night. Sneaking, chasing or drive-by golf cart spraying. Not the kids, the adults! The kids were off to their activities with teen counselors and we had some time to ourselves so being sensible people we started a water war. I don't know who won in the end, but we were all soaked.

I can't wait for next year!
