This is Piglet, our guinea pig. Isn't he cute? We rescued him from some little boys in the neighborhood almost 4 yrs ago. It was a scorching hot Texas summer, 100+ days. These boys were just riding around on their bikes and holding onto Piglet - he was about 6 weeks old. I found out if the parents knew they had it out and urged them to go home with him, but they gave him to us. A free pig costs about $125 right off the bat. Cage, bedding and food. But we have never regretted it. We are confirmed pig lovers. Wish we had two.
When we first got him we thought he was a SHE and so named her Sweetie Pie but when it was discovered he was a HE we changed his name to Piglet.
He eats a big bowl of salad everyday, plus timothy hay and pellets. He sings, chirps and purrs and does a jumping, flipping thing called popcorning - very cute and energetic.
Guinea Pigs make great pets. They are sociable and loving. Ours likes to be held a few minutes a couple a times a day. He is my pet. There is after all the cage to clean up, he has to be fed and held - although I get help on that part. I would caution parents who are thinking about getting one to make sure your children are mature enough to handle one and never leave young children unsupervised when they are out of the cage. Their feet are fragile and if dropped could break their legs or even their spine. I would also urge you to get one from a Guinea Pig rescue.
Before I get comments from pig lovers everywhere, he did not have a full bath only a soak in a shallow pan to help clean up his feet. No guinea pigs were harmed in the making of this video clip.
